In 1963 I wrote an articale in The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery about a little nerve in the forearms of Homo sapiens called the Anterior interosseous nerve responsible for innervation of these functions. I never at that time made the case that the the pinch and grip were exclusive to the species sapiens, based on the fossils øf the bones of the wrist, particularly, scaphoid and trapezius that allow the appossible thumb to be positioned to do so, but less so with all the other Hominide specie fossils known. Such knowledge of the unique functions available to Homo sapiens over the Clench and Hook Homanides.
